"Calliope" #260 Acrylic on canvas, 48"X48"
The calliope is a musical instrument, like an organ, that creates the whimsical whistling music most of us associate with the circus. This piece started out as something altogether different; dark and rather somber. I never was happy with it until I started adding lighter more colorful layers. It turned out much like a circus itself, full of whimsy and color with a little darkness below the surface.
